Your IFAK Is For YOU!

An Individual First Aid Kit contains the basic medical supplies required to treat a single casualty from a variety of potential life threatening injuries.
That individual is YOU, the person carrying the medical kit.
This is important to remember when considering what to carry and how much to spend on an IFAK.
What level of skills and training are the people around you likely to have? Is someone with a higher scope of medical training close by?

Only Carry What You Should

It's tempting to add on every medical device possible to your medical kit. After all, more supplies and devices increases your odds of survival, right? Maybe not.
Carrying extra items like airway adjuncts (nasopharyngeal airway), and decompression needle kits around a civilian range may lead to poor judgement in an emergency where responders aren't trained on proper usage.
General rule of thumb: don't carry any medical devices you aren't properly trained to use, unless directed by a professional responder who IS trained on those medical devices, and will be the responder in case of an emergency (i.e. your team/company medic).
