Lightfighter Essentials is a contiguous two and a half day course on fieldcraft, in a semi-tactical setting. With a focus on usage of kit, and core tactical fieldcraft skills, the course content will allow participants to learn about their equipment and alternate options, apply fieldcraft skills in a tactical setting, and establish a strong foundation on how to live out of a ruck for a short duration. It is a perfect opportunity for anyone looking to improve their fundamental skills for backpacking, backwoods hunting, and tactical camping.

We recognize that the training time made available, particularly to the Reserves, is extremely limited, and typically focuses on checking off boxes rather than honing these essential fieldcraft skills.

Location: Kelowna, BC (Joe Rich Sportsman’s Association)
Duration: 42 hours (2.5 days)
Cursory Kit Requirements:
-Rucksack (50L+)
-Fighting rig & belt, bino harness, or preferred bush set up to carry your IFAK, water, ammunition, binoculars, etc.
-Personal tarp shelter (4x8 or similar)
-Bivvy bag (recommended)
-Sleeping bag (seasonal & mountain weather appropriate)
-Sleeping mat
-Wet & cold weather layers
-Backpacking friendly meals (MRE, dehydrated, etc)
-Entrenching tool & Fixed Blade knife
-4-5L total water capacity (at least 2L in hard sided bottles/canteen)
-Individual First Aid Kit (Minimum contents: Tourniquet, Wound Packing Gauze, Pressure Dressing, Gloves, Sharpie)
-Non-restricted long gun
